Erin Best discusses the basics of intellectual property law for artists, musicians and authors with Business & Arts Newfoundland & Labrador
In the lead up to her Business & Arts Newfoundland & Labrador intellectual property (“IP”) session, February 29, St. John’s associate Erin Bestanswered some general questions on this area of law, and what creators should know about it, in her Q&A with the organization.
When asked what was the most common question artists have about intellectual property law, Erin states, “everyone wants to know what fair dealing is and how it impacts them.” She notes that for the number of talented Newfoundland and Labrador artists, few understand IP law and how it can help protect their creations. “[The] fear of IP undermines their confidence and prevents NL artists from enjoying national and international success. This needn’t be.”
