Announcements
Josie Marks, Partner in our Moncton office, has been appointed to the King’s Counsel. The announcement was made this week by The Honourable Brenda Murphy, Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick. This prestigious honour is awarded to those who have made exceptional contributions and shown remarkable merit within the legal community.
Josie was a Rhodes Scholar in 2004, the same year she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Allison University before obtaining both her Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Quebec Civil Law with great distinction from McGill University in 2011. She has also received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts from Oxford University in 2006 and 2011, respectively. As a leading appellate court advocate Josie has successfully argued numerous complex appeals across numerous practice areas. She has a well-established commercial litigation and arbitration practice, and is frequently retained in relation to shareholder and other commercial disputes. She has appeared regularly before all levels of courts and administrative tribunals since her call to the New Brunswick bar in 2010.
In addition to her legal practice, Josie is active within her community: she is the founder, president and supervising lawyer of the New Brunswick Refugee Clinic, a full-time legal aid clinic which provides free legal services to refugee claimants and other at-risk persons in New Brunswick. Josie is also the Director of the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation, a lawyer-supervisor with the Pro Bono Students Canada Program, and a committed mentor to junior lawyers.
We congratulate Josie on this significant achievement.
