Administrative Law & Litigation

  • Acting for municipalities on land use planning appeals in hearings before the Island Regulatory and Appeals Commission.
  • Representing regulated entities on judicial review.
  • Prosecuting disciplinary charges against members of professional regulatory bodies.
  • Advancing and resolving commercial litigation claims.
  • Assisting in the representation of professional associations in the defence of medical malpractice claims.
  • Representing municipalities in tax collection, bylaw enforcement, and expropriation proceedings in the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island.
  • Representing individuals in hearings before the Atlantic Provinces Harness Racing Commission and the Natural Products Appeals Tribunal.
  • Obtaining the release of sealed search warrant information on behalf of a media company.

Employment & Human Rights

  • Defending employers, educational institutions, and public sector clients in relation to human rights complaints before the Human Rights Commission.
  • Drafting employment contracts, workplace policies, and procedures.
  • Effectively negotiating termination, severance and claims of wrongful dismissal.
  • Assisting employers in handling and responding to workplace investigations.
  • Advising employers with respect to workplace accommodation and claims of discrimination.

Access to Information

  • Assisting custodians in responding to requests for the disclosure of personal health information.
  • Advising public bodies on privacy and disclosure obligations in response to freedom of information requests.
  • Preparing a privacy impact assessment for a public body addressing the new collection, use and disclosure of personal health information.
  • Advising and assisting municipalities on disclosure obligations pursuant to municipal access to information bylaws.
