Jim Gormley, QC, appointed judge of Prince Edward Island Supreme Court

As announced by the Honourable Jody Wilson-Raybould, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, Jim Gormley, QC, will take a spot on the Supreme Court of Prince Edward Island.

Jim was called to the Prince Edward Island bar in 1990 after having received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Prince Edward Island (1986) and a Bachelor of Laws from Dalhousie University (1989) where he worked at the Dalhousie Legal Aid Clinic. Since then, he has developed a comprehensive litigation practice in criminal, administrative and health law. In 2007, Jim received a Queen’s Counsel designation and in 2016, he was the recipient of a Canadian Bar Association Prince Edward Island branch (“CBA-PEI”) Distinguished Service Award, for his contributions to CBA-PEI, the legal profession, as well as the community as a whole.

Jim values the time he has spent in many professional and community volunteer roles including two terms as President of CBA-PEI, President of the University of Prince Edward Island Alumni Association, President of the Canadian Bar Insurance Association, Chair of the Board of Governors of Junior Achievement PEI, Chair of the Professional Section of the United Way of PEI and member of the University of Prince Edward Island Board of Governors.
