Ian’s practice focuses on natural resources development with a particular focus on mineral exploration, mine development, and mining law.  Ian also has a strong real estate law practice.  In these highly regulated fields Ian has assisted his clients with obtaining the land rights and permitting required to move projects from concept to reality. Ian also has extensive experience in the financing of many different types of projects. Examples of Ian’s work with clients include:

• Mineral exploration including stake claiming, permitting, land access, and environmental matters.
• Mine development and mining, including land assembly, environmental assessment, operating approvals, mining leases, crown land permits, stakeholder engagement, indigenous consultation, contracts, site labour, commercial agreements including royalties, off-takes, options, purchase and sale, project financing, reclamation, and all other aspects of a mine from beginning to end.
• Oil & gas pipeline real property acquisition and permitting.
• Underground hydrocarbon and hydrogen storage in salt caverns.
• Hydrogen production plants and related matters including wind generation and fuel storage.
• Large residential/commercial real estate developments including both traditional subdivision development and bare land condominiums.
• Condominium development.
• Golf and other resort developments with rental pools and time shares.
• Commercial leasing of industrial, retail and office premises.
• Large scale “migration” projects under the Land Registration Act.
• Acquisition, sale and financing of all types of commercial and multi-residential properties.
