Halifax partner Rebecca Saturley quoted in CBC article about Heritage Day
Labour and employment partner Rebecca Saturley was interviewed by Richard Cuthbertson of CBC Nova Scotia for his article “Viola Desmond Day: who’s got the day off… and who doesn’t”
When discussing who is and is not entitled to the February 16 provincial holiday, Rebecca states that the federally regulated employers not entitled to the day off are oftentimes businesses. Federally regulated businesses are typically larger businesses operating in multiple jurisdictions that link provinces together, such as banks, telephone companies and couriers. “Those kind of bigger businesses aren’t covered by the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Code, and there is no comparable federal holiday, as of right now.”
