Five partners involved in the Canadian Bar Association Nova Scotia branch mid-winter conference

This year’s Canadian Bar Association Nova Scotia branch mid-winter conference, Thursday, January 28 and Friday, January 29 in Halifax will feature Daniela BassanRob AskeRichard Niedermayer, TEPScott Campbell and Paul Saunders as speakers.

Daniela Bassan will join three others for a panel Thursday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m., to discuss e-discovery: from managing both small and large scale e-projects to using best practices to navigate the process through to completion.

One of the concurrent sessions happening Friday at 9:30 a.m. will feature Rob Aske as he presents, Duty to Contract in Good Faith. Within this presentation, he will review how to address the contractual obligations of good faith as well as provide an update on the impact of a recent Supreme Court of Canada decision, Bhasin v. Hrynew.

Later that afternoon, Richard Niedermayer, TEP, will co-present the session, So you have a trust. Now can you vary it? Here he will discuss the 2011 amendments to the Variation of Trusts Act, and look into how relevant law has been, and could be, altered in this area.

Alongside Richard’s session at 1:30 p.m., Scott Campbell will be part of a panel that will focus on summary judgment motions and what the future might look like in Nova Scotia.

In one of the last sessions of the day, practice innovation partner Paul Saunders will provide tech tips for a busy practice. He will outline how lawyers can get the most out of software they already own, and how to implement processes and systems to maximize the value, and minimize waste.
