Taya has a diverse, litigation-focused practice. She practices mainly in the areas of family and criminal litigation, professional regulation and misconduct, and insurance litigation.

Her work has included:

  • Assisting separating spouses in the negotiation of difficult parenting, spousal support, and property division matters.
  • Federal prosecutions pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Excise Act.
  • Advising child protection organizations.
  • Estate planning and litigation.
  • Assisting professional associations in the defence of medical malpractice claims.
  • Assisting insurers in the defence of civil liability matters.

Taya also has a growing practice in fertility and adoption law, offering services to local, out-of-province, and international clients in the following areas:

  • Providing advice on, and negotiating and drafting, surrogacy agreements and egg, sperm, and embryo donor agreements.
  • Applying to the PEI Supreme Court to confirm legal parentage.
  • Coordinating with international lawyers to support birth registration in parents’ home countries, if needed.
  • Facilitating the Apostille of birth registration documents.
  • Bringing adoption applications before the PEI Supreme Court.

Many of Taya’s clients face life-altering legal opportunities or challenges. She takes a client-first, compassionate approach to helping her clients navigate high-stress situations with clarity and confidence. Wherever possible, Taya works to achieve creative out-of-court resolutions that provide greater control and satisfaction to her clients. When litigation is necessary, Taya draws on her courtroom experience to present her clients’ cases clearly and effectively.
