Ross Langley rejoined the Firm’s Halifax office as Counsel in January, 2025, after having been a Partner in the Firm’s labour and employment group when he left in 2002 to take a senior executive role in industry. Ross’ practice focuses on complex commercial negotiations including Federal government procurement and contracting primarily in the defence sector, corporate governance, strategic labour and employment advice including collective bargaining, executive employment, complex workplace investigations, and dispute resolution related to complex commercial matters. Ross will also support the Firm’s strategic business development activities.
During Ross’ time away from the Firm he served for more than 20 years as a senior executive and chief legal officer of a large group of diversified companies in manufacturing, transportation, natural resources, construction and retail. He has had leadership responsibility for a large group of professional staff working in law, contracting, labour relations, insurance / risk management, and pensions and benefits administration among other corporate functions. His background as both a senior executive legal and business advisor, and general counsel, give him a unique, practical focus on the client’s business needs and objectives.
Ross has completed extensive legal and business training including the Harvard Mediation Intensive certificate course, the Institute of Corporate Directors’ Corporate Governance program through the University of Toronto and INSEAD’s International Corporate Governance certificate program.
Ross also currently sits on two Canadian advisory boards: a large international property insurer and for a multi-year public-private infrastructure project. He has more than 10 years’ experience as a board member for joint ventures involving marine operations and insurance entities.
In addition to a robust professional and legal career, Ross is equally committed to his community. He currently serves as a Director with the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission and the Acadia University Board of Governors where he Chairs the Governance Committee. Ross previously served as a Board member of the QEII Hospital Foundation.
