We are pleased to announce several important leadership updates at Stewart McKelvey that reflect our continued focus on growth, thoughtful succession planning, and the ongoing development of our people. These appointments build on the Firm’s 35-year commitment to client-focused service, operational excellence, and a strong, thriving culture led by an experienced and dedicated team of senior leaders.

Rebecca Saturley appointed Chief People and Culture Officer

Rebecca Saturley, K.C. has taken on the Chief People & Culture Officer role, following her tenure as Managing Partner of the Firm’s Halifax office – a role she held for almost a decade. “Rebecca’s deep understanding of the Firm, her commitment to our values, and her dedication to our people made her an excellent choice for this role”, noted Lydia Bugden. “It was a natural transition in what continues to be an exceptional legal career.” A nationally and internationally recognized labour and employment lawyer, Rebecca has been with the Firm since 2001. A Fellow of the College of Labour and Employment Lawyers, Rebecca received her King’s Counsel in 2024. Outside of the Firm, Rebecca serves on the boards of the QEII Foundation, Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers and Breakthrough T1D. Rebecca will continue practicing and advising clients on Labour & Employment matters.

Sadira Jan appointed Managing Partner, Halifax

After a robust internal process, Sadira (Sadie) Jan was appointed as Managing Partner for the Firm’s Halifax office. A Partner since 2014, Sadie is a recognized legal leader in banking, financing, mergers & acquisitions, and renewable energy. She has garnered the respect of clients and peers alike for her thorough and solutions-focused approach, with an enduring respect for the people behind the legal decisions. “Sadie has spent her entire legal career with the Firm, demonstrating unwavering commitment to our clients, colleagues, and the community”, noted Lydia Bugden, “over the years, Sadie has been deeply involved in the life of the Firm, contributing meaningfully to management and leadership initiatives including most recently on the Firm’s Compensation Committee and Partnership Board, where her insight, dedication, and collaborative spirit were invaluable.” Sadie will continue practicing and advising clients on Corporate matters.

Reflecting on Susan’s contributions to the Firm, CEO & Managing Partner Lydia Bugden, K.C., noted, “Susan was instrumental in shaping the culture of the Firm across the Atlantic Region. She championed the growth and development of countless lawyers and staff, and her leadership, compassion and energy have left an enduring mark on our Firm. We are truly grateful for her many contributions.” Over the course of Susan’s tenure, she oversaw several departments including lawyer development, human resources, marketing, and professional resources. She served as co-Chair of the Firm’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, Chair of the Governance Committee of the Canada Revenue Agency Board of Management, was a member of the Professional Development Committee of the Canadian Bar Association (NS Branch) and sat as a member of the Nova Scotia Provincial Advisory Committee on Judicial Appointments.
